Letter from the Head

Dear Parents,

November proved to be an exciting month, full of fun events, from picking olives and making olive oil with the school’s new olive press, to various educational trips as well as the elementary theme week on “What a Wonderful World”.

We feel so lucky to have the ancient city of Rome at our door step! The Grade 6 students enjoyed an educational day at the Roman Forum. Whereas the Grade 8 students visited famous fountains in the center of Rome, the Keats and Shelley House by the Spanish Steps and the Escher exhibition. One of the guides complimented our group of students stating: “Many school groups visit us, including high school students, but I have never had such a well informed and genuinely interested group of students!”

In the elementary school, we were all treated to the Grade 3 assembly which focussed on the scientific process of conducting experiments and drawing conclusions from the resulting evidence. The children performed a very catchy song and dance, which helped everyone understand the salient aspects of this important topic.

The elementary pupils were also enthralled by the Bloom Theatre group, which came to the school to perform their latest show, ‘Missing Words.’ In a thoroughly entertaining and educational production, the play dealt with the challenges and fun of learning different languages at the same time - something we are all familiar with!

Meanwhile, two Grade 5 pupils (Elodie and Agata) were proud members of the girls’ u14 school football team, which did remarkably well to reach the final of the RISA Cup. This stunning achievement involved some remarkable victories before they were unlucky to lose on penalties in the final.

Grade 4 were treated to a fascinating trip to Cinecitta, where they learnt all about the history of Italian cinema and the various strategies involving photography, art and cinematography - used through the decades - to produce the movies we are all so familiar with. They got to visit several different sets before getting the opportunity themselves to direct, film and act! There are some very exciting trips lined up for December including Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2’s trip to Teatro Don Bosco!

And now for the December events, which include the Winter Shows, hot chocolate afternoons and a Charity Fair organized by the Middle School students, where the elementary students will have a blast playing games in the various stalls. Have a look below for the dates of the December happenings.

Cari genitori,

Novembre si è rivelato un mese emozionante, ricco di eventi piacevoli ed interessanti i, dalla raccolta delle olive e la produzione dell’olio d’oliva con il nuovo frantoio della scuola, a vari viaggi didattici fino alla settimana a tema “Che mondo meraviglioso” per le classi elementari.

E’ un privilegio avere l'antica città di Roma a portata di mano! Gli studenti di Grade 6 hanno trascorso una giornata educativa al Foro Romano, mentre gli studenti di Grade 8 hanno visitato le famose fontane del centro di Roma, la Casa di Keats e Shelley a Piazza di Spagna e la mostra di Escher. Una delle guide si è complimentata con il nostro gruppo di studenti affermando: “Molti gruppi scolastici vengono a trovarci, compresi studenti delle scuole superiori, ma non ho mai avuto un gruppo di studenti così ben informato e sinceramente interessato!”

Alla scuola elementare, siamo stati tutti invitati all'assemblea di Grade 3 incentrata sul processo scientifico di conduzione degli esperimenti e sul come trarre conclusioni dalle prove risultanti. Gli studenti si sono poi esibiti in canti e balli molto orecchiabili, che hanno aiutato tutti a comprendere gli aspetti salienti di questo importante argomento.

Gli alunni delle elementari sono rimasti affascinati anche dal gruppo del Bloom Theatre, che è venuto a scuola per mettere in scena il loro ultimo spettacolo, "Missing Words". In una produzione assolutamente divertente ed educativa, lo spettacolo affrontava le difficoltà e gli aspetti divertenti dell’imparare diverse lingue contemporaneamente - qualcosa che per noi è molto famigliare!

Nel frattempo, due alunne della quinta elementare (Elodie e Agata) che militano con orgoglio nella squadra di calcio femminile della scuola under 14, hanno conseguito un ottimo risultato arrivando in finale nella Coppa RISA. Un successo straordinario conseguito grazie ad una serie di entusiasmanti vittorie nelle fasi eliminatorie prima di perdere, sfortunatamente, la finale ai rigori.

Gli studenti della quarta elementare hanno partecipato ad un affascinante viaggio a Cinecittà, dove hanno imparato tutto sulla storia del cinema italiano e le varie strategie che coinvolgono fotografia, arte e cinematografia - utilizzate nel corso dei decenni - per produrre i film che tutti noi conosciamo così bene. Dapprima, essi hanno potuto visitare diversi allestimenti cinematografici per poi avere l'opportunità di dirigere, filmare e recitare! 

Nel mese di dicembre, sono in programma alcuni viaggi molto emozionanti, tra cui la visita al Teatro Don Bosco da parte dei bambini del Kindergarten, prima e seconda elementare.

Infine, sempre a dicembre, si terranno i Winter Shows, la distribuzione della cioccolata calda e la Fiera di Beneficenza organizzata dagli studenti delle Scuole Medie, ottima opportunità per i ragazzi delle elementari di giocare tra le varie bancarelle.

All'inizio del nuovo anno scolastico i genitori devono compilare e sottoscrivere i seguenti documenti per ciascun alunno iscritto. Una volta compilati i documenti vanno inviati via email al seguente indirizzo: office@castelli-international.it
