The class visited Marino’s Wine Museum and found out lots of fascinating facts about wine making. Below are some of the student’s write ups, which were done as part of their integrated ICT and English lessons.

Yesterday, the 15th of October, class 4 and 5 went to the old cellar of Marino to learn about wine .We spent the morning picking grapes with the Museum Curators, Martina, Marco, Paolo.
When we were picking the grapes we used a bucket, scissors, wooden crates and gloves. We were divided into groups with Martina, Marco and Paolo .I was with Marco who helped us putting the grapes in the buckets .I enjoyed it and I think that the best part was cutting the branches that were holding the grapes.
After that some mothers came to school and picked us up and took us to the cellar. When we arrived Martina told us about how wine was made in the olden times. Some boys and girls of class 4 and 5 went to crush the grapes in a barrel. Meanwhile , my class and some boys of class 4, were listening to Martina who was showing us objects to make wine with and we drew them.
After it was our turn to crush the grapes with rubber boots in a wine vat. Crushing the grapes was sticky but I liked it a lot. At lunch time, we ate pizza with prosciutto crudo and mortadella but I did not like it a lot. We ate on a wooden barrel that was used as a table.
After eating they showed us a wine press which we had to work in two. The two people had to hold on to the handle and walk backwards and forwards and we could hear the zappa going Click,Click.
At the end of the day some mothers came to pick us up .I liked it a lot and I think that other people liked it a lot too!

Yesterday, 15th October, class 4 and 5 went to the wine museum in Marino to learn about making wine. Martina ,Paolo and Marco ,the museum curators, were waiting for us to go to the vineyard. We got our scissors, our buckets and our gloves, and with Camilla and Ginevra we filled the buckets with grapes. I was so EXCITED about going to that museum!!!
After some cars took us to Marino where there was the wine museum. We entered the old cellar ,it was full of mud. Martina took us to explore the museum, and explained to us how to make wine. Marco showed us how to make must. Two at a time, we squashed the grapes in a wooden wine vat.
The must flowed into another wooden vat. Some of class 5 did it with out shoes! YUCK!! YUCK!! YUCK!! Next we had lunch and we ate on wooden barrels .They gave us pizza with mortadella and ham. Mr Clarke drank a glass of juice, with red grapes, ace, and peach juice! It was disgusting!!
Marco and Paolo demonstrated how the wine press worked. It was a manual machine, made with blocks of wood. The wood squeezed the grapes, and forced the juice to come out.The liquid squeezed out of the grapes was must.
This trip was a fantastic trip and I enjoyed the part when we squeezed the grapes and extracted must.

Classes 4 and 5, on the 15th of October, went to make wine at Marino, Vicolo Scuro, THE WINE MUSEUM!!
First we picked lots of really sticky grapes. I got extremely sticky hair! We collected the grapes in wooden crates, some were so heavy they actually broke!! There must have been at least 1000000000 grapes in total! I had lots of fun picking grapes with my classmates. Fortunataly, we had time to get cleaned up and most importantly we ate!!!
Next we arrived in Marino, Vicolo Scuro, to visit the WINE MUSEUM! Martina, one of the museum’s staff, explained that we were walking on “tuf stone” ,a vulcanic rock, where, a long time ago ,the people of Marino carved out caves or cellars which were used to let wine ferment. Then, as we arrived at the museum, Martina explained that it was a bit wet at the entrance so we had to be careful were we put our filthy, muddy shoes while I was too busy admiring the walls so I stepped right into the water! Then Martina told us about the antique tools which were displayed all over the (cellar) museum’s walls.
Then, together with Marco (another of the museums staff ) we started the process of making wine. We started jumping up and down to crush the grapes in the vat to then make it ooze out into another vat. Some children tasted it, but I don’t think it was very good.
Then we had something I live for, LUNCH!!! We had delicous pizza full of mortadella and ham, YUMMY!!!!! ( I’m seriously getting hungry!) For desert we had dry fruit, banana slices and apricots.
Next, we watched a demonstration where Marco and Paolo used a tradicional wine press, a manual machine with some wooden blocks which forced out the must, a liquid which then becomes wine.
I thought this trip was great although I think there was too much waiting since we were so many and there was a bit too much talking so it was slightly boring. I still think its great and,the thing I liked most, was……. THE FOOD!!!!!!

Yesterday, class four and five went on a trip to the wine museum to learn how to make wine.
We went to pick grapes in the vineyard and Pablo and I filled my big bucket three times and I ate a lot of them. When we filled the bucket we put the grapes into wooden crates but Marco C. and Marco T.’s crate broke and all the grapes fell out!
Then we went to the wine Museum in Marino. Martina, one of the museum curators showed us thing they used to make wine and told us about the wine process. I even saw old scales that were used to weigh grapes and an old filter.
Then we started to make wine. We jumped on the grapes that were in a vat, to crush them and the juice came out and flowed into another wooden container. Some of the students even tried the must!
Then we all had lunch. I took a packed lunch but the others got pizza with ham and fruit juice.
Then Marco and Paolo showed us a wine press and how it worked. It pushes down and slowly squeezes the juice out of the grapes under it. The liquid that is squeezed from the grapes is called must and it can turn into wine.
It was an interesting trip and my favorite part was when I squashed the grapes with Pablo!
