Why Castelli International?

Castelli is so much more than just a school:

Set in the green hills of Castelli, with fresh air, olive trees, vineyards and inspiring views – our school is part of a wider community. As well as learning important academic lessons, with a modern, relevant, bi-lingual and international syllabus the children also learn about the wider community in which the school sits, and contribute to local olive and grape harvests.

This is what a few people have said about us:

We often get letters and emails from parents – take a look at some of the nice things that have been said about us to realise that Castelli provides a lot more than education.

Castelli's Report CardExtract from Official Report

In 2011 an independent consultant visited the school to look at how Castelli delivered its programme, not only did Castelli get a clean bill of health, we got a wonderful commendation. Take a look at an extract from her report!

Surrounded by vineyards and with far reaching views of Rome, Castelli International School is a wonderful educational oasis . Established on the site of a former farm house and outbuildings (the infants classrooms were formally cowsheds) its founder and Director, Marianne Palladino has achieved a lifelong vision; a learning environment that encapsulates mutual respect, love of learning, intellectual exploration and adventure. As Mrs Palladino put it, “Education is about so much more than the colour of Napoleon’s horse.”

Castelli is a bilingual school where the majority of lessons and most social communication takes place in English. Italian is taught as a discrete subject by experienced Italian teachers.

Expectations of students are very high and educational attainment excellent as a result. Students show particular strengths in oral activities, with the groups I observed speaking English with an understanding, clarity and sophistication well above their chronological age. Contributions in lessons are pertinent, well informed and thorough. Students are confident about speaking out and expressing and exchanging ideas.

Mrs Palladino runs a tight ship but this is no ‘one fit’ ethos. Individual skills and differences are actively acknowledged and valued. Staff talk confidently and knowledgeably about the varying needs of their pupils.

Castelli provides a safe, nurturing environment for students to develop emotionally, academically and creatively. Courtesy, consideration and integrity are as much a part of the curriculum as academic subjects. Everyone is treated with care and respect and staff and students work collaboratively in this friendly environment to enjoy both work and leisure

Based on a Chinese proverb, the school’s motto:  When I hear I forget. When I see I remember. When I do I understand, is perfectly apt. Castelli encourages students not only to achieve their potential but also to regularly apply their learning to everyday life.

Projects under-way at the time of my visit included an edible garden where pupils learn how to grow their own food, an open air theatre performance and a visit to Etruscan ruins, including a ride on horseback.

Castelli provides a unique experience: a commitment to community and cultural and personal diversity, high level English language teaching within an exciting, challenging curriculum and the real essentials for meaningful education- a genuine passion for learning and life…
